44km to Dominical

And 2.5 hours later...here we are. We made good timing considering the trip is scheduled to take up to 4 hours! At first we did see how a 44km trip could take that long...until we saw the condition of the roads. It was quite bumpy the whole way, but I think the roads must be better than they have been in the past, because it did look like they were doing construction on them to conduct upgrades. Here is one the the bridges we went over as well. It was scary sounding to hear the bus drive over the slats of the bridge...(for anyone from Saskatoon...the City wanted to condemn the Victoria Bridge, well they should have seen this one!)

Here an ox-cart labourer hauling fruit from the planting fields to the factory, followed by a picture of the factory.

Here's our hostel in Dominical. It was owned by an Amercian lady and here Tico husband (she's from Alaska). It was a nice place to stay but with all the rains, the mosquitos here were really bad! We made sure to put up our mosquito net here!

And here is a local spider that lived in the lane behind our hostel, of course Kyle took pictures of it. Yuck!
Okay, so let's hit the beach! It wasn't the nicest beach we've been to; the sand was nice but the beach was also really full of washed up debris since it was such an exposed beach.

The previous pictures were from the beach that was further down from the town's beach. It was cleaner, but here is where Kyle would go out surfing, so I would find myself a little piece of sand to read my book on.

Onto the surfing...due to the rains and a large river pouring into the ocean just north of Dominical, the waves were sloppy alot fo the time. But Kyle still managed to make it out there a couple times. Here he is preparing his board...
..and then preparing himself.

We were pretty lucky when we got to Dominical as we didn't get rained on too much, but here comes the rain... Kyle set himself up into a hammack but had troubles keeping the rain off him.

This was the hardest and longest rain we've seen yet during our trip. We knew we were coming at the end of the rainy season, but this got annoying. Luckily, the hostel also had a restuarant so when we weren't eating or reading, we were playing cards in the restaurant with a couple a drinks. Here, we'll try show you how bad it was raining...it was leaking over the patio edge.

And this had been a dry area earlier in the day. Now it's up to my ankles in just a couple hours of rain.
After pouring rain from 2:00 in the afternoon to 9:00 the next morning, we had enough of Dominical. We caught one of the late morning buses back to Quepos, in order to catch a transfer back to Jaco.
After the pouring rain, the roads conditions were even worse, but take a look at all the water! Along with more bridges that we crossed.

On our way back to Jaco, we also got a few quick pictures of the housing (outside of the main towns), and some local cattle (we called Jesus Cows). The rain finally stopped but it was pretty wet the whole way back.
After returning to Jaco, and checking out the local surf shop again, Lorenzo (my surf instructor at the shop) had told us it poured rain there too...so it wasn't just the further south the worse the rain got! The highway between Quepos and Jaco had suffered some mudslides too because of the rain! So they got it pretty good all over!
