First Stop - Jaco, Costa Rica

Benvenidos a COSTA RICA!

Our first stop after entering the lush greenery of Costa Rica was Jaco. This was an ideal to pick up some surfboards, take some lessons, and just hang out on the beach to get a feeling for the country. Here is one of the first views we had of Costa Rica.

After our three hour bus ride from San Jose to Jaco, we found a hostel (Cabinas Emily - picture below), a surf shop, a board rental, and hit the beach. After renting a board and testing out the surfer feet for a few days, Kyle bought himself a new board.

The new board, a 6'8" fish, seemed to do the job just fine...

Here's me heading out into the water for the first time this trip. The water here in Central America is the warmest water that you will ever surf in...I think we've been spoiled for our potential trip to Australia!

I took some surf lessons the second day we were in Jaco. Sadly, no pictures of me surfing because Kyle went surfing too, but here is my first surfing injury.
Other than our surfing adventures in Jaco, we saw lots of local wildlife, and they were JUST outside our door. Here's a friendly neighbourhood squirrel eating bananas on the patio...

A big iguana lizard...these guys were always running around the patio area.
A cute little Jesus Christ Lizard...when they are bigger, they sure aren't as cute! And two crocodiles that live in the river next door to our hostel. Kyle got up close and personal to those crocs! A little too close as he slipped into the river trying to take some close-ups pictures of them...luckily he scared them as much as he scared himself!
Generally, the weather has been hot, and it has rained almost daily...light showers in the afternoon, and light showers-medium rains in the evenings. Definitely board shorts and skirt weather. It is also very humid. We noticed that even in Houston yet. It consumes you...but we started to get used to it by the time we left Jaco.
