Masaya Market

While staying at the Laguna, Yvonne was going into Masaya to the market, so we went along. We got onto a"chicken bus" for the first time. These are the local buses which sometimes are full of school kids, sometimes full of people with yes chickens, and are sometimes so full that people have to sit on the bus roof! Funny thing, though, these are all Canadian Blue Bird buses - old school buses from Canada.
Yvonne headed to the market, while Kyle and I went around town for alittle bit. Here are a few shots of Masaya and streetscapes.

Kyle and I stopped at the bank, and saw these two little kids pushing each other around in a Coke crate. They were along the sidewalk, cutting through street traffic and everything. Kyle tracked them down for a picture but they stopped and posed when he got close enough.

This is the tourist market. It's the first place that we've been to in Nicaragua that has the touristy products like handcrafts, hammocks, souvenirs, jewelry, cigars, etc. Most places here don't have things like this. This open-aired market use to be home to the local market until a fire occurred a few years back. The local market moved to its present location but the bus stop and the tourist market took over the old location. It's a pretty neat structure but it's pretty crazy inside.
This is the local market. What an experience! What ever you do - stay out of the meat section! They sell everything from clothing, shoes, housewares to fruit and veggies, meat, and dry goods. Here is Yvonne and I walking through the market at the end of our shopping day.

This is the Masaya bus stop. It was quite a colorful place!
Here is a modified bike/buggy which is used by alot of the locals for carrying their goods.
Yvonne and I again at the market before heading home to the Laguna.
