The Story of Handyman Carl

This is Carl. He was the local handyman for a week at the Laguna. I picked up this devilishly good looking man while staying at the Laguna. He kinda grows on you. He's strong and likes to show off his muscles often.

This guy is also very sly.
And he had quite the fan club...of women...
He worked very hard to earn our accomodations...
Along with some help from little ol' me, of course.
He worked very hard to build a bookcase. He sometimes got frustrated.

But he got the job done...
Are you impressed with what Handyman Carl can do?Let's take a closer look...

...at his tools...
...and at the finished project.
Whoa, what is up with that? Handyman Carl calls this "Nicaraguan Style", he says it's supposed to look like that.
And this? Well, those are "earthquake shock-absorbers"! Good one.
(The "shock-absorbers" were added as an extra security measure after we woke up one morning to a solid 'quake. Handyman Carl was sleeping against the brick wall and it threw him to the middle of the bed.)
In the end, the owner was happy with the product...there is only so much you do with a hand saw and some rusty nails. As long as it held books, it was good enough. This was Kyle's, umm, I mean Carls' lesson about building in Nicaragua. It doesn't help, either, when the walls aren't square and you're not familiar with the local supplies, so you make do with what you got, and learn to adapt your plans as you come across new problems.
Kyle got his nickname from: 1) often when he says his name, people end up saying "Carl" instead, and 2) does he not look like a Carl with this 'stache?! Com'on now. Us girls had fun bugging Handyman Carl.
