Bienvenidos a NICARAGUA! Offshore 300 days of the year!We made it, we're here. And the adventure continues. We hit the border crossing in Penas Blancas around 5:00 in the evening. Crossed through with no problems and no line ups. It was the federal election day so the palce was pretty quiet. We caught a cab to our next destination...
First stop in Nicaragua was San Juan Del Sur. We had the most remarkable ride from the border into town. The country was alive as we saw the most amazing sunset. It was such a wonderful experience entering a new country and seeing it in all of its glory. The skies were dancing with so much color, it excited our senses! We had rolling hills to the left of us, and Lago de Nicaragua with Isla de Omtempe and its two volcanoes to our right. The entire sky was alive with color! Sadly, the camera was in the trunk, so only the memories will survive. We arrived in San Juan in the evening, and settled into a hotel, yes, a hotel, not a hostel. A hotel here cost us the same amount as hostel rooms cost us in Costa Rica.

This is the street in front of our hotel. It's the main street coming into town, and leads directly to the beach.
We stayed in San Juan for about a week, and saw many things throughout our stay. The following are some random everyday street scenes. The people and culture here are beautiful. Nicaragua is less commcericalized than Costa Rica, and we found our stay here very enjoyable and the people friendlier.

Next, we'll show you the beach...San Juan is a fishing village so no surfing here. The surf beaches are located north and south of San Juan and are accessed through beach shuttles (truck) or water-taxi's.

Here's a couple more of us goofing around at the beach.

And again, the sunsets were spectacular!

This is another of Kyle's favorite pictures. Every evening there was kids playing soccer on the beach. One evening Kyle snapped these at the perfect time....it's a great sequence!

We really like it here. For me, San Juan was a bit of an adjustment after coming from touristy Costa Rica, but the palce sure grows on you! And you can't bet this weather! Everyday it's sunny! We hardly got any rain while we were here, and that's great! We got a little sick of it travelling throuh CR. Nicaragua isn't as humid as CR, but it is just as hot. And luckily it cools down a bit more in the evenings. This was the first time I put on my capris - something a little more on the legs than a skirt or shorts. This place has the perfect climate in this time of year!

More on the sunsets....

In Costa Rica, the beverage of choice for Kyle was Imperial beer. In Nicaragua, it was either Tona or Victoria. Here's Kyle with his beverage of choice after a long day of surfing.
Thanks but no thanks, I'll stick with my Cokes in both countries.

Have to document this one...at on of the ocean front restaurants, Kyle ordered seafood soup thinking it would be some sort of chowder, and here's what he got...it was the most interesting meal he had all trip. It was full of oysters, shrimp, etc. and even had it's very own fish head! Eww.
